Paint Me Another Target

On each international flight, Sandra a Korean-German attendant secretly sketches one passenger from an unfamiliar angle—the reflection in a coffee pot, a silhouette across an emergency-exit diagram, a face broken into pieces by an ice tray. After settling in South Korea, she stages those sketches as lurid, low-budget spy tableaux with rubber sharks and cardboard missiles, and the resulting paintings propel her from a basement arcade studio to museums across the world. Her models, a quarrelsome crew of retired stunt performers and former field agents, become her unlikely allies when a rogue propaganda unit begins replacing her harmless props with working weapons during a traveling exhibition aboard a decommissioned aircraft carrier. With the carrier drifting toward Busan’s crowded harbor and ninety minutes left before a missile disguised as a silver sculpture launches, she must repaint the vessel’s giant flight-deck illusion while her crew fights to keep the unit away from the trigger.
