Dr. Thaddeus Wilson Wyatt, a 31-year-old folklorist and cryptohistorian, stands a modest five-foot-two but exudes an energy that eclipses men twice his size. With a penchant for suspenders, an ever-present grin, and hair so meticulously parted it borders on art, he is the sort of clean-cut, well-groomed "good ole boy" who could charm the bark off a Georgia pine. Thaddeus’s intellect is dazzling—fluent in Latin, Greek, Hebrew, and German, he deciphers ancient codes and legends with the same gusto he applies to his favorite R.C. Cola. Yet, for all his scholarly brilliance, he’s endearingly approachable—his Southern drawl softens even the most erudite discourse, peppered with a playful, self-deprecating humor that makes him the life of any church potluck. Despite his strictly religious upbringing, his faith is not sanctimonious but quietly worn, the source of both his principled crusading and his Good Samaritan instincts. He is a paragon in his rural community, a savior and white knight who cannot help but leap into the fray for others, even when his courage borders on recklessness.
Thaddeus has never quite outgrown the boyish impulse to make fools of himself for a laugh, nor the hillbilly mischief that gets him into scrapes—traits that both endear and exasperate those around him. He is deeply romantic, a true knight in shining armor for his beloved, and his playful, demonstrative nature makes him the heart of any room. Yet, beneath the affable exterior, he harbors a restlessness—a longing to reconcile the humility of his blue-collar, common-man roots with the daunting weight of being a reluctant hero. His scientific genius is matched only by his inability to walk away from a mystery, and he often wrestles with the tension between his wholesome, godly ideals and the darker, more violent realities unearthed by his research. Thaddeus’s speech is a melodic blend of rural idioms and academic flourishes, never profane but always vivid, with a knack for quoting scripture and classic literature in the same breath as a bawdy limerick. His quirks—collecting antique Bibles, obsessively polishing his prized Camaro, and scribbling cryptic notes on church bulletins—are as much a part of him as his relentless optimism. He is, ultimately, a surprisingly sympathetic and good-natured figure, an ordinary man thrust into extraordinary circumstances, whose most endearing flaw may be his stubborn hope that even the most broken places can be redeemed. As the story’s protagonist, Thaddeus is poised to be both the heart and the conscience of the coming storm—a reluctant hero whose charm and integrity will be tested in ways he cannot yet imagine. Married to his wife Kandace who is h fine as hell.
