Mafia game

In a modern city of stop-motion brickwork and fox-headed shopkeepers, a detective follows a ruthless mafia boss’s collectors through a night market where debtors are nailed to their own shadows until their families pay. He discovers that the boss is an unknown entity known only as “The Devil,” and every collector he arrests opens his mouth to reveal the same distant constellation. The deeper he investigates, the more crushing terror leaves him curled beneath his desk, while the gang’s velvet-gloved debt collector—the woman he keeps meeting for stolen kisses—holds his jaw steady enough for him to drink. She leads him to a butcher’s cold room where missing shopkeepers have spent weeks listening to something breathe inside an empty meat hook. When the hook catches her shadow, he must cut hers free and let the waiting collectors escape, or keep the exits locked while she is dragged inch by inch toward the ceiling.
